Software Piracy
You will never stop (some) humans wanting to 'deceive' each other, it seems to be part of our genetic core. However, I truly believe that most of the software piracy is nothing more than an oversight by the user, however, it is something that the industry has to get much better at policing.
I find it very strange that we do not have more 'technology led' security in place to control this better, however, I also guess that the vendors have to take much of the blame for 'forcing' business to upgrade and buy software it does not need far too often. Perhaps 'life cycle' contract and pricing are required, something that protects both the customer and vendor to want to be in business for life.
To Distribute or not, that is the question...
... that never seems to get answered. Trend Micro along with a host of others are the latest to introduce a 'back to the future' strategy. Distribution has long been discussed can it survive in this low margin world, which is inevitable.
Noted the comment recently from Trend: "We want distributors that are not content with their current vendor', based on the unlimited choice in the market, movement of loyalty between distributors and re-sellers, the drive to recruit 'tens of thousands' of resellers, I can imagine that thuere are many that qualify!
When will the technology industry works out it needs quality (not quantity) to drive high margin business as well as volume plays (quantity)! It also needs to 'back it's horse' for enough years to make a difference!
